A person reads every message. There is no ticket system, no bot and no queue, so an answer usually takes a day or two rather than a minute.

Common questions
Is it free?
Yes. No price, no subscription, no in-app purchases, no ads. There is nothing to restore and nothing to cancel.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign up and no login. The app does not know who you are.
Does it work offline?
Yes, all of it. The words and all the recorded clips are inside the app, so a flight or a tunnel changes nothing.
How do I reset my progress?
Settings, then "Start over, clear my profile". It clears your name, your level and everything in the bin, and it cannot be undone.
How do I delete my data?
Everything the app remembers is written to storage on your own phone, so "Start over" or deleting the app removes it. Nothing is held on a server for us to delete.
The one exception is this website: if you typed your address into the waitlist form, or into the form above, write to us and it is deleted.
I deleted the app. Can I get my streak back?
No, and this is worth knowing before you tap delete. Progress lives only on the phone, is not backed up to any account of ours, and goes with the app.
Why does that word keep coming back?
That is the bin, and it is the whole point. A word you get wrong goes in and gains a miss. Every right answer takes one miss off. At zero it leaves. Sensei still remembers.
Some words sound different from the others
Most words are read by a recorded voice. A word with no clip yet falls back to your phone's own speech engine, which is why the voice changes. If a reading is wrong, tell us the word and it is fixed in the next update.
I found a mistake in a word or a translation
Send it. Corrections are the main reason the app updates at all, and they ship to everyone.
Which levels are there?
Beginner, which is hiragana and katakana only, then N5 through N1. You pick one when you start and can change it in Settings.
Is there an Android version?
It is built and coming to Google Play. Join the list on the front page and you get one email on the day it lands.
If it will not start
Force quit and reopen it first: on iPhone swipe up from the bottom and flick the app away, on Android use the recents key. If it still will not open, delete and reinstall it, then tell us what phone you are on. Reinstalling clears your progress, so it is the last thing to try, not the first.
If there is no sound
Check the silent switch on the side of an iPhone and the volume while the app is open. Gomi Sensei never asks for the microphone, so nothing on the permissions screen affects playback.
