Using the app

You may use Gomi Sensei on any device you own, for as long as you like, for your own study. Installing it or using this website means you accept what is on this page.

Cost

The app is free. There are no in-app purchases, no subscription and no advertising. If you were ever charged for Gomi Sensei by anyone, it was not us.

Your progress is yours, and it is on your phone

Your name, level, streak and the words in your bin are stored on your own device and nowhere else. We hold no copy, so we cannot restore it, move it to a new phone, or recover it after you delete the app. "Start over" in Settings deletes it deliberately, and it does not come back.

What is ours

The app, this website, the artwork, the sensei, the example sentences and the recorded voice belong to us. Study with them freely. Do not repackage, resell, or ship them inside something else.

Japanese words, readings and their common English meanings are the language itself, and nobody owns those.

Not a teacher, and not the JLPT

Gomi Sensei is a study aid with jokes in it. The vocabulary is real, the example sentences are deliberately ridiculous, and neither is a translation service or exam advice. Levels are named after JLPT levels because that is how Japanese vocabulary is commonly sorted. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the Japan Foundation or JEES, who run the actual exam, and using this app is not a guarantee of passing anything.

Mistakes

The word data is checked but not perfect. Report anything wrong and it gets fixed in an update. Until then, do not rely on a single card for anything that matters, like a form, a contract or a conversation with someone's parents.

No warranty

The app is provided as it is, with no promise that it is free of faults, available at any given moment, or fit for a particular purpose. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss that follows from using it, including lost progress. Where your local consumer law gives you rights that cannot be signed away, those rights stand and nothing here overrides them.

Ending it

Delete the app and these terms are over. We can stop distributing or updating Gomi Sensei at any point, and a copy already on your phone keeps working offline for as long as your operating system will run it.

The App Store and Google Play

Apple and Google distribute the app and are not responsible for it. Any question, refund, or complaint about the app itself comes to us, not to them. The store you downloaded from also applies its own terms to that download.

If this changes

The date below changes with it, and this page is replaced.
